Combining a Philadelphia soul sound with a strong appreciation of Marvin Gaye, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly was among the top R&B acts in the late 1970's and 1980's. They have enjoyed a run of close to thirty hit singles since 1977, nine of which have been Top 10 R&B charted singles including the classics "Running Away," "Love Is the Key," "Back In Stride," "Too Many Games," "Can't Get Over You," and "Silky Soul." Eight of the group's ten albums have gone gold, all the way from their 1977 self-titled debut to their 1993 album, Back to Basics. The soul / quiet storm group features Frankie Beverly's voice mixed with Maze's laid-back, bass driven musical arrangements and are still well-received by a very devoted fan base.
As a singer, producer, songwriter and multi-Grammy winner, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds was an inescapable presence in virtually every major facet of pop music during the '90s. In 1989, he released his debut double-platinum album Tender Lover which caught fire with the R&B chart toppers "It's No Crime" (#1) and "Whip Appeal" (#2). An even bigger success came in 1993 with his triple platinum album, For the Cool in You, producing "When Can I See You Again," landing him his first top five pop hit and first Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal. Babyface has worked alongside many of the top performers of the past two decades including Whitney Houston, Madonna, Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige. In 1995, he won the first of three consecutive Grammy's as Producer of the Year.
